Barclays Scottish Open

The Scottish Open, which is currently sponsored by Barclays Capital, is one of the richer golf tournaments on the European Tour. It was a European Tour event in 1972 and 1973, and after a twelve year break has been a fixture in the schedule under a variety of names since 1986.

Loch Lomond Golf CourseSince 1996 it has taken place at Loch Lomond Golf Club north of Glasgow. It takes place the week before The Open Championship, and some concern has been expressed that the host course, puts European Tour players at a disadvantage in the subsequent major, compared to their leading rivals from the PGA Tour, who traditionally spend a week practising for the Open on links courses in Ireland.

In 1972 the prize fund was £10,000 and by 2006 it had increased to £2.4 million. The prize fund has, for the 2007 event, been raised to £3 million.
