Wonderful win for Webster
England’s Steve Webster won the Portugal Masters with a superb closing round of 64 at the Victoria Club in Vilamoura.

One behind Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik overnight, the 32-year-old from Nuneaton was in the joint lead after going to the turn in a four-under 32, then took command when he sank a nine-foot eagle putt on the dangerous long 12th and followed it with a birdie two.

Pettersson takes slender lead
Carl Pettersson shot a bogey-free six-under-par 64 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead at the inaugural Fry’s Electronics Open.

The Swede, who started the round four strokes behind second round leader Ryan Moore, holds a slender one stroke advantage over Mark Hensby and Mike Weir as he searches for a first title since The Memorial in 2006.

Hensby shot a third round 66, while Weir signed for a 65 at the Grayhawk Golf Club.

The 30-year-old Pettersson made up ground on the leaders early on Saturday, carding three birdies in his first five holes.

Vancsik leads again
For the second week running, Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik will take a lead into the final day of a European Tour event.

But the big-hitting 30-year-old will be hoping for a different outcome after running up a quintuple-bogey nine on the fifth hole at last week’s Madrid Open.

After a third-round 68, Vancsik is 18 under par and one ahead of England’s Steve Webster (67) and South African Charl Schwartzel (66) in the Portugal Masters.

Ryder Cup Swede Robert Karlsson and England’s Ross Fisher are one shot further back, while British Masters champion Lee Westwood is in the group three behind following a 67.

Moore leads the way
Ryan Moore fired a seven-under-par 63 to open up a three-shot lead after the second round of the inaugural Fry’s Electronics Open.

The former amateur star carded eight birdies and one bogey, at the 17th, to move on to 11 under par.

Ben Crane (66) and Daisuke Maruyama (65) are currently second, with Mike Weir (64), Carl Pettersson (66) and Nick Watney (68) one shot further back.

“It was just really consistent ball-striking,” said Moore afterwards. “I just felt comfortable out there.”
